Artery-on-a-Chip Symposium and Workshop 2011

8 March 2011, Toronto, Canada

Introduction
Quorum Technologies and the University of Toronto will be hosting a one-day Symposium and Workshop on March 8 centered around Artery-On-A-Chip, a microfluidic platform invented at the University of Toronto that allows investigation of isolated resistance arteries that play a key role in several cardiovascular diseases. The platform allows for acute and long-term study of artery function in a physiological microenvironment, is scalable, easy to use, inexpensive and has the potential for automation and standardization. The device is expected to find widespread applications in microvascular research, screening of cardiovascular drug candidates in Pharma, and ultimately as a clinical test in personalized medicine to optimize drug therapy of cardiovascular patients. More details on the technology are available in a paper published in 2010 in the journal Lab on a Chip (Vol 10, p. 2341, http://xlink.rsc.org/?DOI=C004675B ).

Keynote speakers in the Symposium include Dr. Rhian Touyz (University of Ottawa) and Dr. Gerald Meininger (University of Missouri). Quorum Technologies, the company commercializing the technology, will introduce the current prototype to the public for the first time during the Workshop sessions. John Arbuckle, CEO of Quorum, as well as University of Toronto inventors Drs. Axel Guenther and Steffen-Sebastian Bolz will also discuss upcoming beta system placement opportunities - researchers interested in evaluating the technology in their own laboratories are particularly encouraged to attend. For a detailed agenda please send us an email or go to www.quorumtechnologies.com. There is no charge to attend. Please register by February 20 by contacting Dr. Bohdan Soltys [Email: bohdan@quorumtechnologies.com ].
