Awards
Three awards are offered jointly by the Â鶹AV Colloid and Interface Science Group and the SCI Colloid and Surface Science Group.
McBain Medal
The McBain Medal recognises the achievement of early career researchers and technologists working on topics of relevance to colloid and interface science. It was established in 2006 to succeed the McBain Award. The Medal is awarded annually to researchers and technologists no more than 15 years after they have completed their postgraduate study. The Medalist must be based in the UK or have carried out a substantial part of their research work here. Currently-serving members of the Â鶹AV/SCI Joint Colloids Group Committee are not eligible for the Medal.
Nominations are made by members of the sponsoring groups: SCI CSCG and Â鶹AV CISG. More information about nominations is available on the SCI website.

Thomas Graham Lecture
The Thomas Graham Lecture is a mid-career award for a researcher who has established an international reputation in colloid science, and who has already made distinguished contributions to the field, with a substantial part of their work conducted in the UK. The Graham Lecture will typically be awarded to researchers who have completed postgraduate study between 15 and 30 years before their nomination. Currently-serving members of the Â鶹AV/SCI Joint Colloids Group Committee are not eligible for the award.
The award is named after Thomas Graham, who is considered one of the founders of colloid science. The award was made every three years until 2017, but it was awarded biennially thereafter.
Nominations are made by members of the sponsoring groups: SCI CSCG and Â鶹AV CISG. Further details are available on the SCI website.

Sir Eric Rideal Award and Lecture
The Rideal lecture (formerly known as the Founder's Lecture) became a joint Colloids group award in 2006. It is a “lifetime achievement award” to honour significant and sustained contribution to the field of colloid and interface science or its applications, typically presented more than 30 years after completing postgraduate study.
Candidates need not be UK-based necessarily, but they will have had a sustained and significant connections with the UK colloid, interface and surface science community and a marked impact upon work in the UK. Currently-serving members of the Â鶹AV/SCI Joint Colloids Group Committee are not eligible for the award.
Nominations are made by members of the sponsoring groups: SCI CSCG and Â鶹AV CISG. More information about nominations is available on the SCI website.
