The Protein and Peptide Science Group (PPSG) is one of the Â鶹AV's many Interest Groups. The Interest Groups are member driven groups which exist to benefit Â鶹AV members, and the wider chemical science community, in line with the Â鶹AV's strategy and charter.
Our aims
To maintain the logical progression of molecular science through chemistry into biochemistry, biology, medicine, plant and food science. Thus, it has an interdisciplinary approach, representing the Protein science interests of chemists, molecular biologists, structural biologists, Peptide chemists and biologists, medics, members of the biotechnology, food and pharmaceutical industries.
Scope
The interests of the Group have developed to cover:
- Protein structure determination,
- structure prediction,
- molecular modeling and dynamics,
- protein separation and characterisation,
- protein biosynthesis,
- protein expression,
- modification and targeting,
- combinatorial synthesis,
- protein design and engineering,
- drug-protein and protein-protein interactions,
- and protein structure-function.
Events
We run a free, monthly networking event that comprises two short talks from early-mid career academics. The aim of the series is to build a stronger network amongst researchers across the Â鶹AV community working in peptide and protein science. This is intended to be a relaxed and social get together and we hope to help researchers to find new collaborations, to share ideas and to promote themselves and their research.
The seminars take place at 1pm on the first Friday of each month hosted on zoom. Registration links for each seminar can be found via the forthcoming events link at the bottom of this page.
If you would like to present in future seminars, please contact one of the organisers (Louis Luk, Chris Coxon or Louise Walport).
Community
We are always looking for new members who are keen to get involved and to help organise our activities. If you would like to find out more please contact the Secretary.
How to Join
Â鶹AV members can join the Protein & Peptide Science Group by updating their details in the “My communities and subscriptions” tab of the online Â鶹AV membership area. Please .
